I am a UK Registered counsellor, accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), this means that my counselling and supervision work is bound by the BACP Ethical Framework. I am currently working from Derby.
I have a passion to help people heal and to move forward with their lives. Sometimes with all that life throws at us gets too much to cope with and we all need some support from time to time, no matter how little or big the issues may seem.
Through my work, I aim to empower you to release the blocks that are holding you back from reaching your potential.
I support you to build a better and more meaningful relationship with yourself. This helps to develop your Self Love, which I believe lays the foundations to true happiness.
I have worked in both statutory and voluntary sector counselling services over the last 14 years across the East and West Midlands. My counselling experience has largely involved working therapeutically with children, young people and women from many walks of life, backgrounds and cultures. I have set up, developed and coordinated many counselling services across the whole Midlands.
My Counselling Approach
My main counselling approach is psychodynamic which forms the basis of my work, however I integrate other approaches and techniques that will help my clients to move forward with their issues. These may include working more creatively and using mindfulness and meditation techniques. The relationship that is built between client and therapist, is the key element for counselling to be effective. I provide a safe and confidential place for you to talk about whatever is going on in your life. I help you to ‘stop’ and ‘reflect’ on your feelings. This increases your awareness and brings insight to unconscious feelings.
Counselling is an enlightening process. Focusing on your inner world enables you to have a better understanding of yourself, your relationships and your circumstances, all of which can help you to find ways to move forward with your life.
Since January 2017, there has been a slight shift in my practice into intuitive and energy based healing. Now, as well as counselling I offer:
As a project worker I have experience supporting people with mental health problems and substance misuse issues. I set up and delivered a day programme in Sandwell for Turning Point to support people in their recovery. This included one to one and group work around increasing self esteem and confidence, relapse prevention, improving employability options through providing support into voluntary work, training and employment. I have supported women involved in street sex work affected by poverty, homelessness, drug use and those vulnerable to sexual exploitation.
